S 25 Berlin on Sunday: More than 14,000 sports enthusiasts expected

10. May 2025

More than 14,000 sports enthusiasts from 100 countries are expected to take part in Germany’s oldest city run – the S 25 Berlin – next Sunday, 11 May. Six different routes are on offer. The final highlight: the finish line is in the centre of Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. Late registrations are possible up to one hour before the start. The children’s run, the 5-kilometre run and the TeamRun are already fully booked. On Sunday morning, there will be road closures around the Olympic Stadium between 7am and 2pm.
The starting signal for the running movement in German cities was given 44 years ago in Berlin: On 3 May 1981, the first city run in Germany was held with the ‘25 km de Berlin’. The premiere was a great success with 3000 participants. Since 2018, after Berliner Sparkasse became the main sponsor, the popular run has been called S 25 Berlin.

New route: Grunewald instead of Victory Column

For the first time in the long history of this popular race, the traditional 25-kilometre distance will take runners through Grunewald forest on Sunday. The demolition of the dilapidated Ringbahn bridge on the A100 motorway makes the originally planned route through the entire City West impossible.
All runners will start as planned in front of the Olympic Stadium. There will be no changes to the route for the 5-kilometre run (start at 08:30) and the children’s run (start at 09:45). The athletes of the 25-kilometre distance (start at 9 a.m.) will first run towards Theodor-Heuss-Platz as planned. They will then not continue towards the Siegessäule – but via Heerstraße, Jafféstraße onto Eichkampstraße, Königsweg and Kronprinzessinnenweg. The route then heads south via Havelchaussee along the Havel back to the Olympic Park and ends at the Olympic Stadium.

The half marathon and 10-kilometre runners start at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Olympic Stadium. From Theodor-Heuss-Platz, the route leads westwards along Heerstraße, continuing along Heilsberger Allee and Trakehner Allee, past the Glockenturm and through the Olympic Park to the Olympic Stadium. Half marathon participants complete this route twice. Due to the modified route, the 5×5 km relay race cannot be realised.
