Record number of participants at the VOLVO Tierpark Run on 9 and 10 September at the Zoo in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde.
This weekend it’s finally time! On Saturday and Sunday (9/10 September), the VOLVO Tierparklauf will once again transform the Tierpark in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde into a wonderful sports arena for running beginners and ambitious athletes. The run on the starting places is bigger than ever before: many routes, including the children’s and bambini runs as well as the five-kilometre runs, are already fully booked. Those who have made up their minds at the last minute can still register for the ten-kilometre runs on Saturday and Sunday (9.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. starts) and the new TRAILRUN on Saturday (3 p.m.).
“The anticipation is huge, the demand overwhelming'”, says race director Martin Seeber, who expects 5500 starters for the first time. “The concept works. The VOLVO Tierparklauf offers a wide range of courses, there is something for everyone. We are especially pleased that the extended offer of the children’s races has been so well received. The youngsters are becoming more and more the focus of attention.”
The running party in the zoo starts at 9:30 am on both days (admission from 8:30 am). The 30th anniversary of the main sponsor Koch Automobile AG will also be celebrated at the weekend. “As the main sponsor for many years, we are very pleased that the Volvo Tierparklauf has become such a popular event in Berlin. It is always great to experience the great atmosphere in this extraordinary zoo ambience,” says Thomas Greitzke, CEO of Koch Automobile AG. “We warmly congratulate the entire Koch team on this special birthday and look forward to continuing to shape this running event together,” says race director Martin Seeber. “An ambitious, modern family business and an innovative running event for the whole family – it just goes together.”
Another highlight: eye level with the largest land mammals on earth!
Entry to the Tierpark is free for all registered runners (and one accompanying person for the bambini and children’s run). There will also be plenty to experience along the route – including another innovation. Along the newly designed giraffe enclosure in the African savannah landscape, visitors can meet the largest mammals on earth at eye level on a wooden footbridge and on an eight-metre-long suspension bridge. Race director Martin Seeber: “The giraffe is therefore also our ‘running animal 2023’.” This year, the giraffe “Gerti” can be seen on all medals, certificates and shirts of the VOLVO Tierparklauf.
